The Story of Adriana Palomares
My name is Adriana Palomares and this is my story…
Being Latina means I get to live a life rich of culture, history, tradition and diversity. It is also an opportunity to bring to the world a different perspective on how Latin America is usually portrayed. We are not just a cluster of third world countries dealing with poverty, political crisis, and corruption. My Latinidad is a badge of resilience, courage, passion, strength, beauty, pride and creativity.
Being bilingual, bicultural, and binational adds a blend to my essence, of the best things the U.S. and Mexico have to offer, and that makes me unique.
Women who have inspired me include: Justice Ruth Badder Ginsburg, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Sor Juana Inez De la Cruz, Frida Kahlo, Maria Felix, Oprah, my grandmother and my mother.
As a first-generation Latina, I have had to overcome many challenges, among the most significant ones have been to be the first in my family to go to college, become a lawyer, break the generational cycle of poverty, become a business owner and the first to be working on publishing a novel all without social capital or wealth.
Being a lawyer means I know my rights and am not easily intimidated. Being a lawyer has allowed me to build a strong character and be a voice for others. That is truly an honor. My passion is to write. My purpose is to help others whether is through advocacy or through inspirational writings.
I am really proud of my personal development, I have achieved a balance in my emotional, spiritual, financial, and physical health that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world!
I do what I do because I truly love it and believe it is my purpose in life.
My next move is to publish my first novel, coming 2021!
I advise fellow Latinas to educate themselves, to travel, to work on their personal development, to seek mentorship, to build a network of other strong Latinx, and to just enjoy life while they too reach their goals.
One of my favorite quotes is from Oprah: “You are not your circumstances. You are your possibilities.”
